| 1865 3rd November, blue envelope with embossed flap 'NATAL FIRE ASSURANCE PIETERMARITZBURG', bearing QV 6d lilac horizontal pair (SG 23), cancelled '1' numerals, alongside 'PIETER-MARTIZBURG / (crown)' datestamp, addressed to England. Struck alongside with red 'PAID / DAVENPORT / CAPE-PACKET / 19 DE 65' datestamp. Apparently carried by the Union steamer Mauritius to Cape Town and then by the Union steamer Cambrian arriving on the 18th December. Delightful. |
