| 1910 (16th August) Interprovincial Period (Cape used in Cape). Picture postcard with colour view titled ‘Johannesburg. The Pagoda in the Zoo. Above on the Hill the residence of Col. Schumacher.’ Bearing a single Cape KEVII ½d green (SG 70) tied by a neat TOUWS RIVER (AU 16) single circle datestamp with a second strike alongside. Addressed to Durban and with a Durban (AU 19) transit and a light but readable strike of the scarce WEST’S BLUFF (20 AU) double circle datestamp (apparently with ‘NATAL’ removed) struck on arrival. Putzel / Visser suggest this datestamp was used at WESTS RAIL between 1910 and 1925 though the address and mutilation suggests otherwise. |
