| LATE CRISIS CARD 1897 (25th January), 1d rose-red postal stationery card (H&G 2) addressed to the USA. The reverse with privately printed view in brown titled ‘THE LATE CRISIS IN JOHANNESBURG / SCENE IN SIMMONDS STREET’ The imprinted stamp cancelled with a JOHANNESBURG (25 JAN) double circle datestamp. Saint Louis (1 Mar) arrival datestamp struck at upper left. The view side also showing boxed cachet of ‘M.Z. Booleman’, one of the first stamp dealers in Johannesburg, struck in violet. Corner crease, otherwise fine and very scarce. (Q&J PP1.1) |
