Postal History South African Occupation) 1916 (16th August), envelope addressed and sent registered to Switzerland. Bearing a single King’s Head 1/- orange (SG 12) tied by a KEETMANSHOOP / S.W. AFRICA (16 Aug) double circle datestamp and with a boxed Keetmanshoop registration cachet struck in blue. The letter was censored and shows a boxed ‘PASSED BY / CENSOR cachet struck in violet and a circular ‘PASSED CENSOR / C.14’ circular cachet in purple. The envelope was resealed with large red on white bilingual ‘Opened by Censor. / Geopend door Censor. / 104’ and apparently a second time with a similar label with number ‘99’, tied together with a large oval ‘CENSOR / 21 AUG 1916 / CAPETOWN’ cachet struck in blue on the reverse. St Gallen (15 Sep) arrival backstamp. A few edge faults including tears above but clear of the adhesive. Scarce usage of the 1/- duty used alone on cover.
