Postal History (South African Occupation) 1916 (14th March), printed envelope addressed and sent unsealed to Berseba. Bearing a single King’s Head 1d rose-red (SG 4) tied by a LUDERITZBUCHT (14 Mar) double circle datestamp. The letter was censored and shows a ‘PASSED BY CENSOR / DOORGELATEN DOOR CENSOR / No. 4’ boxed cachet struck in blue. Keetmanshoop (16 Mar) transit backstamp.

Note: Putzel states a postal agency was opened at Berseba in 1921, and closed in 1922 with Keetmanshoop listed as the Head Office. It is unclear how mail was sent from Keetmanshoop to Berseba in 1916.
