Postal History 1876 (6th May), envelope addressed to England bearing a single 4d blue (SG 24a) tied by a ‘2’ BONC with light proving PORT ELIZABETH (6 May) single circle datestamp alongside. Endorsed ‘Per S.S. “Dunrobin Castle.”’ at top. Birmingham (1 Jun) arrival backstamp. Also showing a ‘2’ accountancy mark poorly struck in red (in an unusual style). Flap with tears, otherwise a fine example of a ship letter carried by the Donald Currie line at the 4d per half ounce rate. |
