Postal History 1873 (14th March), envelope addressed to England bearing a single wing-marginal 4d blue (SG 24a) tied by a ‘2’ BONC with proving PORT ELIZABETH (14 Mar) single circle datestamp alongside. Endorsed ‘Per S.S. “Walmer Castle” / March 14th 73’ at top. Cape Town (17 Mar) transit and SHIP-LETTER / LONDON (15 Apr) arrival in red, both struck on the front, with an additional London (15 Apr) datestamp struck in red on the reverse. The adhesive additionally tied by a large ‘2d’ accountancy mark struck in red. The adhesive and envelope with faults including crumpling and some staining though a good example of a ship letter carried by the Donald Currie line at the 4d per half ounce rate.
