1910 (30th July), envelope addressed to Yokohama, Japan. Bearing a pair of KEVII 1d scarlet (SG 274) tied by a neat HLATIKULU (30 Jul) double circle datestamp. Despite the helpful endorsement ‘Near the Hundred Steps’, the envelope was not delivered and a printed rice paper instructional label was affixed to the front. An ‘INCONNU’ cachet was struck in violet and a large ‘ADVERTISED / OCT 10 1910 / YOKOHAMA.’ oval cachet in black. The envelope was then returned to Johannesburg. The reverse with Piet Retief (1 Aug), Victoria / Hong Kong (12 Sep), Yokohama (19 Sep) and RETURNED LETTER OFFICE / JOHANNESBURG (27 Apr 1911) backstamps. Small portion of flap missing, otherwise very fine and a wonderful example of mail from Swaziland to a most unusual destination.
