1899 (5th October), locally addressed envelope bearing a single 1896 1d rose-red and green (SG 217) tied by Johannesburg (5 Oct) double circle datestamp. The letter was unclaimed and received a further Johannesburg strike (1 Jan 00, almost coincident with the original datestamp) along with two fine strikes of the unframed straight-line ‘GEPUBLICEERD’ cachet struck in black. Backstamped with a partial strike of the boxed ‘INCONNU / ONBEKEND.’ cachet and a commercial oval cachet of SOLOMON & THOMSON struck in violet.
