| 1894 (30th June), ‘Tamsen’ envelope addressed in his distinctive hand and sent registered to Funchal, Madeira. Bearing a total of 8½d in postage comprising Vurtheim 1d carmine and 2½d mauve (x3) (SG 176, 179) all tied by ‘17’ barred triangle obliterators with a proving NYLSTROOM (30 Jun) double circle datestamp at right. Also showing a large ‘R / Z.A.R.’ within an oval struck in black. The reverse with Pretoria 1 (July), Cape Town (4 July) and Funchal (15 July) transit / arrival backstamps. |
