1892 (5th July), ‘Tamsen’ envelope addressed in his distinctive hand and sent registered to France, endorsed ‘via Natal’. Bearing 1/3 in postage comprising a Vurtheim 3d mauve and pair of 6d pale dull blue (SG 180a, 182) all tied by ‘17’ barred triangle obliterators with a proving NIJLSTROOM (5 Jul) single circle datestamp also tying the 3d. Also showing a large ‘R / Z.A.R.’ within an oval struck in black. With London (7 Aug) and Paris (7 Aug) transit / arrivals struck on the front and the reverse with Pretoria (6 Jul), Durban (12 Jul) and G.P.O. Natal (12 Jul) transit backstamps. The flaps ‘sealed’ with selvedge and ‘tied’ by ‘E. TAMSEN, / Stamp Dealer, / TRANSVAAL.’ oval cachets struck in violet. A few edge faults though an attractive example of mail sent via the Natal route.
