1894 (19th May), ‘Tamsen’ envelope addressed in his distinctive hand and sent registered to France. Bearing 1/6 in postage comprising a Vurtheim 6d pale dull blue and a 1/- yellow-green (SG 182, 183b) tied by ‘17’ barred triangle obliterators with a proving NYLSTROOM (19 May) double circle datestamp at right. Also showing a large ‘R / Z.A.R.’ within an oval struck in black. With London (11 Jun) and Lille (11 Jun) transits struck on the front and the reverse with Pretoria (19 May), Cape Town (23 May) Pretoria (? May) and Douai (? Jun) transit / arrival backstamps. A scarce franking.
