POSTAL HISTORY
T2310
1893 (18th April), TRANSVAAL USED IN MASHONALAND. Part of a large envelope sent registered to Johannesburg. Bearing three examples of the ZAR Vurtheim issue 2d olive-bistre (SG 178) all tied by three strikes of TULI / MASHONALAND (18 Apr) single circle datestamps with a further very fine strike below. Most unusual and very rare, being one of only two items of mail recorded with ZAR stamps used in Mashonaland.

Note: it is believed the 6d franking paid the registration fee of 4d and the 2d per half ounce letter rate. This envelope would have gone via the Transvaal Route from Tuli to Pretoria and Johannesburg via Pietersburg.
