1948 KGVI 2½d Royal Silver Wedding 'TANGIER' overprint on GB. Lower right corner block of four, all showing overprint shifted downwards with two now in the margin at base. Superb unmounted. Together with original invoice from H.& A. Wallace who retailed the sheet in December 1948. SG 255 vars (see footnote)
Note: this downward shift resulted in the major variety overprint omitted vertical pair with stamp overprinted at top (SG 255a). The top six stamps from the sheet were affected and the remaining 114 stamps received the overprint at top. The lower marginal most dramatically illustrates this shift |
