1896 3d ultramarine SURCHARGE IN FIGURES AND WORDS. Complete ‘set’ comprising each of the seven Types of the ‘½d’ surcharge (SG 69-75, Types A-G) each further surcharged ‘Halve / Penny.’ and bar (SG 77). Two showing bar at top and the Type G a lower left corner marginal example. Fine mint with hinge remnants and each with small ‘D.G. CROCKER.’ handstamp on the reverse. A scarce group.
Note: in a footnote after SG 82, it is stated these “are not considered issued with authority”. However, Hisey and Bartshe in ‘Orange Free State Philately’ Vol I, p104, state this issue “is perfectly legitimate.”
