POSTAL HISTORY 1902 (27th January), Anglo-Boer War period. Censored envelope addressed to England. Bearing a left marginal horizontal pair of the Cape ½d green overprinted 'ORANGE / RIVER / COLONY.' (SG 133) tied by WINBURG / O.R.C. (27 Jan) single circle datestamps. With a triangular PASSED / PRESS / CENSOR cachet struck in violet and a straight-line ‘P.B.C.’ struck in blue. Backstamped with Bloemfontein (30 Jan) and Southampton (21 Feb) transit and Camberley ? (22 Feb) arrival datestamps. The flap with crest of the Royal Army Medical Corps embossed in blue. Odd small stain, otherwise fine. |
