POSTAL HISTORY 1901 (12th April), Anglo-Boer War period. Wrapper addressed to England bearing a single Great Britain 1d lilac (SG 172) tied by KAFFIR RIVER / O.R.C. (12 Apr) single circle datestamp with a further strike at lower left. Apparently intended to be sent at a soldiers concessionary rate with a space left at lower left for endorsement, however, no rank or regimental details were countersigned and a further datestamp (13? Apr) was struck and a ‘T’ tax marking applied. The reverse with some thinning from mounting, otherwise a fine and unusual franking and a very scarce datestamp.
