| 1894 (June), envelope addressed to Mafeking, bearing a single ½d vermilion (SG 9) tied by a ‘555’ Barred Oval Numeral Canceller with proving VRYBURG / B.B (9 June with ‘4’ of year sideways) single circle datestamp below. The flap, which has not been stuck down, bears the imprint of MUSSON BROS. / FORWARDING AND COMMISSION AGENTS, / VRYBURG. A very fine example of the scarce ‘½d open letter rate’. Very clean and attractive and a very scarce value used alone on cover. |
