Postal Stationery H&G 8a / BBS RE27 S(1) var, c1906 KEVII 2d+1d chestnut registered postal stationery envelope surcharged 'DUTY 4d.' (size F). Handstamped ‘SPECIMEN’ (Type GB16), and additionally handstamped ‘ULTRAMAR’ vertically in blue. Flap partially affixed and small filing hole, otherwise fine unused. Scarce.
Note: the 'ULTRAMAR' handstamp was applied in Lisbon by the Portuguese authorities to specimen stamps and postal stationery received from the UPU prior to distribution to the Portuguese colonies.
