1901 (11th September), envelope, addressed to England bearing a pair of Large Arms 4d (SG 44a) tied by ABERCORN / N.E. RHODESIA (11 Sep) double circle datestamps with an additional strike alongside. The corner of one adhesive folded over before cancelling. The British postal authorities affixed printed black on white ‘E. R. / Found / Open and / Officially / Sealed’ tape to the entire perimeter of the envelope and applied a ‘Found open and / resealed in E.C.’ boxed cachet at upper left. With FIFE (16 Sep) and Chinde B.C.A. (28 Nov) transit backstamps. A wonderful, characterful cover.
