REVENUE STAMPS USED ON DOCUMENT
AB3899
Revenue 1931 (7th October), page (180x315mm) from a ‘Deed of Lease’ document bearing nine examples of the South Africa KGV £1 deep green and scarlet revenue stamp overprinted ‘Bechuanaland / Revenue Only.’ comprising three horizontal strips of three. The left stamp of the upper strip shows the wider 2mm spacing, se-tenant with 1mm spacing on the other two stamps. The other strips all show 1mm spacing. Each stamp is initialled and dated ‘7/X/31’. The £1 with the wider spacing was recorded and discussed by T&M in later editions of their listing, this document being the discovery item. The two settings were previously thought to have been issued some years apart (though the £1 with 2mm spacing may be an anomaly within a later 1mm setting). A very attractive and rare multiple of this issue on document, especially showing two settings se-tenant. All with superb fresh colour. T&M 12.6, 12.6v2.
