| 1924 KGV Admiral issue. Pair of stamp sized MASTER DIE PROOFS, one of the ‘Admiral’ portrait vignette printed in black, endorsed with die number ’10,070’ in black manuscript and affixed to backing card (32x32mm). The second proof is of the frame, also printed in black on thin card (32x38mm) with blank value tablet but with territory name. Endorsed with die number ’10,069’ in black manuscript. Each proof is further endorsed ‘Cancelled’ and dated ‘19/1/40’ in red manuscript. From the Waterlow archive day book. Faults, including surface split on the frame proof as to be expected for proofs which were retained in the printshop. Otherwise a fine pair of early stage working proofs. |
