1885 Celliers 3d pale red surcharged 'HALVE PENNY' reading down. Showing ALBINO IMPRESSION, READING UP. Very fine fresh unmounted. SG 188 var.
Note: this surcharge was carried out in two operations for the left and right panes, one resulting in the surcharge reading down, and the second with it reading up. In this instance, it would appear that whilst the reading up impression was applied, it failed to register as an inked impression. In an effort to correct, a second reading down impression was applied. Apparently NOT RECORED PREVIOUSLY, and no doubt subject to further research |
