1885 Cape ½d grey-black OVERPRINTED IN LAKE. Mint, with some original gum. Unobtrusive creasing in lower corners. A major Bechuanaland rarity. BPA certificate (1995). Ex Brian Hurst collection. SG 1a
Note: it is believed the lake overprint was an early trial which was subsequently issued. Of the seven recorded examples, three are mint or unused (one is in the Botswana Philatelic Museum) and four are used (one is in the Royal Philatelic Collection).
