Forgery Cape 1871 5/- yellow-orange with forged 'British Bechuanaland' overprint. Heavy hinge remnants otherwise fine mint. Very scarce in mint condition. Remarkably, the forger chose a rare mint Cape stamp to overprint. (Cape SG 31)
Note: although predicted in the early philatelic press, the 5/- duty was never overprinted for use in Bechuanaland and genuine overprints have no stop after ‘Bechuanaland’.
