Bearing two unappropriated dies 1d lilac and black tied by ‘638’ Barred Oval Numeral Cancellers with a proving MAFEKING / BECHUANALAND (8 Dec) single circle datestamp at right. The flap with printed ‘E. GOWER, / General Merchant / MAFEKING, / British Bechuanaland.’ Vryburg (10 Dec) transit and Johannesburg (13 Dec) arrival backstamps. Several edge faults otherwise fine.
