| 1888 Cape of Good Hope ½d grey-black overprinted ‘British Bechuanaland’ in green. Horizontal pair fiscally used. There was no revenue rate in force requiring the use of a ½d stamp. However, a pair served to pay the one penny duty required for all receipts in payment of goods and services. Only two pairs have been recorded to date, this pair is illustrated in Trotter and Midwood. Fault at lower right due to acidic ink. Ex Brian Hurst Collection. SG 30
