1944 (10th February), WWII period censored envelope addressed and sent via airmail to the USA. Bearing four examples of the KGVI 1/- black and brown-olive (SG 125) tied by MAUN / B.P. (10 Feb) double circle datestamps. Although crossed for registration, the envelope was not handed in at a post office counter. This was noticed in transit in Cape Town where it received a bilingual ‘POSTED OUT OF COURSE / TO PAY’ cachet struck in black and was compulsorily registered, a registration label affixed and a ‘T/80c’ taxe marking was applied. The letter was opened and resealed with a red on white bilingual ‘OPENED BY CENSOR.’ and ‘EXAMINED BY / 30618’ censor labels. With Cape Town (19 Feb), Miami (11 and 15 Mar), San Francisco (16 Mar) and Sacramento (17 Mar) transit / arrival backstamps. |
