1898 (26th November), envelope addressed to Germany (address partly deleted). Bearing QV Protectorate ‘Jubilees’ ½d vermilion, 2d grey-green and carmine and 4d green and purple-brown (SG 59, 62, 64) all tied by LOBATSI R.S. SOUTH AFRICA (NO 26) single circle datestamps with an additional strike at left. Backstamped with a Mafeking (NO 26) squared circle transit and a German (19 Dec) arrival datestamp. The envelope with trimmed corners, otherwise a fine example of a 6½d per half ounce letter rate to Europe. |
