VV516 |
1905 (11th November), envelope addressed to England. Bearing a combination of a QV ½d and KEVII 1d and 2½d (SG 60, 68, 69) tied by FRANCISTOWN BECHD PROTEC. (NO 11) single circle datestamps. Backstamped with a Leeds (DE 2) arrival datestamp.
Note: it is unclear why 4d was affixed as the Protectorate letter rate to Britain was reduced from 4d to 2½d per half ounce on the 1st April 1903. It may be a result of confusion as Francistown was previously considered being within the ‘Trans-Protectorate’ where different rates applied.
