1964 (25th October), OHMS envelope addressed and sent registered airmail to South Africa bearing a total of 12c in pictorial definitives: 1c Oriole, 3½c Widow-bird and a 7½c Hornbill (SG 168, 171, 173) all tied by a single LOBATSI / BECH. PROT. (25 Oct) double circle datestamp with a further strike on the reverse. With a light Lobatsi registration cachet and a ‘DEPT. OF POSTS & TELEGRAPHS / 28 JUN 1961 / BECHUANALAND PROTECTORATE / HEAD OFFICE: LOBATSI’ oval datestamp both struck in violet. Mafeking RLS–GBA (26 Oct) transit and Paarl (28 Oct) arrival backstamps. A few peripheral faults otherwise a fine and colourful franking. |
