BRITISH BECHUANALAND  -  1893-95 CAPE 1d & 2d OVERPRINTED READING DOWN 'British Bechuanaland'
AB4425
1893 Cape 1d carmine-red with overprint reading downwards. Showing the variety ‘British’ OMITTED entirely due to shift of the overprint to the right. Tied to small piece by Vryburg (20 SP / 94) single circle datestamp. The Broken ‘B’ and ‘c’ make it plateable as from the left-hand pane [Row 1/1]. Corner fault at upper left mentioned on an otherwise clear PFSA certificate (2003). Very rare. Ex the Brian Hurst Collection and beautifully written up on his album page. SG 38b

Note: Of the ten stamps that could exist one is in the Royal collection, a re-joined strip of five is in the Mosely collection in the British Library and one further used example is recorded (ex Inglefield-Watson and Besançon).
