| 1878 3d mauve on buff, overprinted ‘V. R. / Transvaal’. A left marginal vertical pair, imperforate, with enormous margins at left to just touching at base. The upper stamp with Roman ‘V. R.’ and the lower stamp with italic ‘V. R.’ Plateable as positions [17 / 25]. Very fine mint, the lower stamp being unmounted and the upper stamp with hinge remnants described in overly harsh terms ‘heavily hinged’ on an otherwise clear RPS certificate (2024).
