| 1893 (15th February), envelope addressed to Switzerland, bearing a single ‘Vurtheim’ 4d bronze-green (SG 181) tied by a SPELONKEN / Z.A.R. (15 Feb) squared octagon. Pretoria (19 Feb), London (11 Mar) transit and Neuchâtel (12 Mar) arrival backstamps. A fine example of the 4d per half ounce rate to Europe introduced on 1st December 1892 (Trotter, Southern African Mails, p414). Scarce. |
