| 1891 (27th June), envelope addressed to England. Bearing a single ‘Vurtheim’ 4d bronze-green (SG 181) tied by a neat JOHANNESBURG / Z.A.R. (27 Jun) single circle datestamp. With Cape Town (1 Jul) transit and London (20 Jul) arrival backstamps. Part of flap missing, otherwise a fine example of the 4d per half ounce rate to England which was in effect from the 1st January 1891 until 1st December 1892 when it was reduced to 2½d per half ounce. |
