1900 (25th March), Anglo-Boer War period. Twice censored envelope addressed to a prisoner of war at Wynberg [military hospital, Cape Town] ‘Via Delagoa Bay’. Bearing ZAR ½d green and 1d rose-red and green (SG 216, 217) tied by POTCHEFSTROOM / Z.A.R. (25 Mar) double circle datestamps. Initially opened and resealed in the ZAR with a black on rose censor label. With Mozambique (2? Mar) and Durban (2 Apr) transit backstamps. The envelope was again opened, this time by the British authorities who resealed it with a large black on dull rose censor label. A circular ‘Censor / Prisoner of War’ cachet was also applied. Part of British censor seal remove to reveal adhesives, otherwise fine. Unusual.
