POSTAL HISTORY 1892 (February), stampless cover (shortened at right) to Winburg endorsed ‘In Dienst’ bearing large circular ORANGE VRYSTAAT / ARTILLERIE cachet (Coat of Arms over two crossed canons) struck in pale blue-green. Overstruck with Bloemfontein (9 Feb) squared octagon. Backstamped Winburg (11 Feb) unframed cds. This Artillery Regiment comprised 30-40 soldiers and was the only permanent force in the OFS to have free mailing privileges. A good strike of this very scarce cachet, usually poorly impressed.
