Very rare, this handstamp was applied by DLR to only 12 examples of certain stamps under Inland Revenue authority and only six examples of each duty are believed to exist outside the National Postal Museum. AZ18 ZULULAND / Forgery 1888 GB QV ½d vermilion. An upper right corner marginal block of 30, each apparently bearing a forged ‘ZULULAND’ overprint, applied inverted. Creasing and some reinforced splitting, otherwise fine mint. Although widely regarded as a forgery, the overprint is virtually identical to known genuine examples apart from a few positions which appear 0.5 mm shorter. Philatelic Foundation certificate (1946) bears a photographs of a pane of 60 although the text refers to a block of 30, and states ‘that it is counterfeit’. SG 1 forgery. £275
