BC328 Postal History 1918-22 correspondence from one A. W. Davies to C. R. Mansel Lewis Esq., Stradley Castle, Wales. Comprising two 10c postal stationery cards and 11 covers variously franked either at 25c or 50c in differing combinations, all cancelled 'NIANGARA' sc strikes. A few countersigned at lower left corner, and mostly endorsed 'Via Khartoum' or 'Via Aba, Rejaf & Cairo'. Four receiving triangular 'PASSED / CENSOR / SUDAN' cachets in black or violet and three retaining the original contents which give a wonderful and fascinating account of life at the time and the difficulties of the Missionary work. Two further enclose delightful hand made booklets containing the 'new issues of Congo postage stamps'. Some cover faults including one with a stamp cut away, this being overweight and consequently taxed firstly at '3½d' and then at '6d'. A remarkable group. £275

Retreived from the ill-fated Douglas DC4 flight which crashed on the 13th May near Magazini en route Leopoldville to Libenga with the loss of all but one of the 32 people on board. Scarce. £75
