Note: this overprint is similar to that on BBS PC15. However, it lacks the line ‘THE ADDRESS TO BE WRITTEN ON THIS SIDE’ that appears below ‘POST CARD’ on PC15. Although described as an essay by Peter Thy and John Inglefield-Watson in ‘The Postal Stationery of the Bechuanalands and Botswana’, an example has been recorded genuinely used at Tsessebe in April 1913, suggesting some of these cards were included in a delivery to the Protectorate.

Note: the Portuguese authorities received U.P.U. specimens on behalf of their overseas territories. These were handstamped ‘ULTRAMAR’ or, from 1911 ‘COLONIAS’. Cards bearing the latter handstamp are believed to emanate from the Goa or Angolan archives.
